Go Solar at a reduced price : the government supports you with up to Rs 75,000 !
The Household Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Grant Scheme, launched on 25 July 2026, is making solar energy more accessible to Mauritian households. Eligible households can benefit from a grant covering 25% of their photovoltaic installation cost, up to Rs 75,000. For 2026, the programme will support 3,600 households.
Affordable solar energy for everyone is now a reality in Mauritius. From now on, you can pay less for your photovoltaic installation and achieve real energy savings. Indeed, you can reduce your initial investment through the government’s grant programme, the Household Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Grant Scheme.
On 25 July 2026, this financial support for households officially came into effect. Mauritius has therefore reached a new milestone in its energy transition.
A grant of up to Rs 75,000 per household
Government support covers 25% of the total installation cost for 3,600 households during 2026. This funding is capped at Rs 75,000 per household.

With or without a battery : what you need to know
In accordance with the Household Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Grant Scheme, a hybrid system combining solar panels and a battery may be mandatory or optional, depending on the following conditions :
► For a system with a capacity of 3.5 kW or less, equivalent to up to 7 panels, the battery is optional.
► Once the system generates a power output above 3.5 kW, that is, from 8 panels onwards, the battery becomes mandatory.
It is worth remembering that the battery is designed to store the energy you produce but do not consume. You can then use this stored surplus when your panels produce less energy – for example, on cloudy days or in the evening when solar production decreases.
Land allocation for renewable energy projects
Another point arising from the Cabinet decision of 24 July concerns the allocation of land to support renewable energy projects. The government plans to develop solar farms on these sites, representing a large-scale undertaking that will be studied by an Interministerial Committee appointed for this purpose.
