The government grant, the DBM loan, a green loan from your own bank and the financing we offer with our partners: what each one is, and how to compare them.

The grant lowers the cost and a loan spreads the rest. Here is what each option is and who it comes from.
Government, through the DBM
25 % of the system cost, up to Rs 75,000 per application. Applications go through the Development Bank of Mauritius online form.
Development Bank of Mauritius
Interest rates are set by the DBM.
Your bank
You apply at your own bank, which decides on your file. Some banks have green loans for solar panels: MCB, Absa and SBM (its Eco Loan) all name solar on their pages, and SICOM has an EcoPlus Green Loan. Other banks may offer similar loans, so ask yours.
Rate, term and conditions depend on your profile and are the bank's own: ask for them in writing. Your bank will ask for a supplier quotation, which we give you.
With our finance partners
We offer financing facilities with finance partners, including the ones below. The exact rate, term and eligibility depend on your situation, so we guide you step by step and explain each option in simple words. Ask us which one fits your project.
A bank is listed only when its own page names solar panels. These banks are not Grubbs partners: you apply to them directly.
Other banks may offer similar loans, so ask yours. Rates, amounts and terms depend on your profile and change over time: ask the bank for them in writing.
Estimate a repayment
Enter the amount to finance and the rate and term you were offered. The calculator does the sum. It is an illustration, not an offer.
If your quote already deducts the grant, enter the amount after the grant.
The example values are only placeholders: replace them with your offer. Fees, insurance and a rate that changes over time are not included.
Other help
Neither is a loan. Both come from the tax rules.
Individuals can deduct the full amount invested in a solar energy unit — panels, inverter, battery, charge controller — in the income year (Income Tax Act, s.27C). Any unrelieved amount is carried forward, and a couple may split it. Solar water heaters do not qualify.
See it on the MRA sitePhotovoltaic systems, panels, batteries and inverters are zero-rated for VAT under the Fifth Schedule of the VAT Act.

Yes. The DBM's household loan page presents the loan together with the 25 % grant, up to Rs 75,000, which the DBM handles through its online form. A loan from your own bank or from one of our partners covers the part of the cost you choose to finance.

Compare the total you will repay, not only the monthly payment. Then check whether the rate is fixed or variable, which fees and insurance are required, what security is asked for, whether you can repay early, and whether the loan covers the panels, the battery and the installation.
